Local history

Around Town

The name. The town is named for its seven springs. The Cherokee and Creek called the site Gunpowder Springs, for the blackish, mineral-bearing sediment in the water.
Before 1859 it went by Springville.
First telephone: 1888, installed in Hipps & Sons Store, per the Seven Springs Museum, which keeps the town’s history at the Historic Bodiford House.
The Silver Comet. The passenger train, introduced by the Seaboard Air Line Railroad in 1947, ran this route until 1969. Its rail bed is now a paved trail, 12.8 miles of it in Cobb County.
Population: 16,887 at the 2020 census.
